Las Lomitas district prepares to celebrate its first 100 years
(July 14, 2004) The Las Lomitas Elementary School District has begun preparations to celebrate its 100th anniversary in the fall.
The school district's Centennial Committee is planning a series of events for the weekend of October 16 and 17 on the campuses of Las Lomitas Elementary and La Entrada Middle schools.
So far, plans include a carnival, an alumni and parent dance, and the "sinking" of a time capsule.
A souvenir book is in the works. To fill it, the district is soliciting memories in the form of stories and photographs from former students and staff members. People are invited to e-mail information and photos to springridgehistories@yahoo.com. Memories also can be sent to the district office at 1011 Altschul Ave. in Menlo Park.
At its start in 1904, the district had 14 students and one teacher -- Miss May McCullough. Today, about 1,000 students are enrolled. Most live in Menlo Park, Atherton, Woodside and unincorporated parts of San Mateo County. About 90 students are from the Ravenswood School District in East Palo Alto.
