Two M-A students honored in Bay Area science fair
(July 14, 2004) They may not have taken home statewide awards, but Menlo-
Atherton High School junior Collin Cronkite-Ratcliff and freshman Robbie
Eaton have reason to be pleased with their efforts in the annual science fair
contests.
In the Bay Area Science Fair, held in late March, Collin took first
place in the high school division, received a $200 computer science award
from Intel Corp. and was recognized by the Lawrence Berkeley National
Laboratory for his computer model of the SARS epidemic, said M-A
Instructional Vice Principal Steve Lippi.
Robbie took third place in the high school division for his experiment
on artificial echo location, with possible applications in "smart guidance" of
torpedoes, robots, and the blind, Mr. Lippi said.
Both students were first-place winners in the 2003 and 2004 San
Mateo County science fairs.
At the state science fair in Los Angeles on May 24 and 25, Robbie
made his second consecutive visit, while Collin was recognized as one of
only two students who have qualified for six consecutive years. If Collin
returns in 2005, he will be the only student to have qualified for seven
consecutive years.
