Woodside toddler dies in apparent drowning Woodside toddler dies in apparent drowning (July 28, 2004)

The death of 16-month-old Jason Larrick, who was found unconscious by his mother in an indoor Jacuzzi tub on July 20 at their Woodside home, "looks like it was a tragic accident," said Detective Sgt. Linda Gibbons of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. "There is no evidence to indicate foul play or negligence."

The boy -- son of Jun Chen and prominent biotechnologist James Larrick -- was flown to Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford, where he was pronounced dead.

Sgt. Gibbons said it looked like a drowning incident. The child also had what looked like hot-water burns on his body but no other injuries, said Robert Foucrault, San Mateo County coroner.

The exact cause of death will be reported after the results of toxicology tests are released within the next two weeks, Mr. Foucrault said.

Mr. Larrick is the founder and managing director of Panorama Research in Mountain View.
