School board to vote on bond measure School board to vote on bond measure (July 28, 2004)

The school board of the Sequoia Union High School District will convene for a public meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at the temporary offices at 1300 Island Drive, Suite 101, in Redwood Shores.

The board will consider authorizing a bond measure for the November election that could raise about $70 million in construction funds for district schools, including $6 million for Woodside High and $8 million for Menlo-Atherton.

The measure would meet the requirements of state Proposition 39, which allows passage with a 55-percent majority of voters instead of two-thirds. Proposition 39 requires districts to: say up front how the money will be used; carefully monitor spending; and share facilities with charter schools, if asked.

At the meeting, board members are planning to discuss charter school facility needs and Sequoia's Proposition 39 obligations. About $6 million would go toward a new building for East Palo Alto High School, a charter school located in the Ravenswood City School District.
