Watershed outreach program Saturday in Portola Valley Watershed outreach program Saturday in Portola Valley (August 11, 2004)

People interested in understanding and protecting San Francisquito Creek, its tributaries, and its watershed are invited to an outreach meeting Saturday, August 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Portola Valley.

Participants may park at Corte Madera School, 4575 Alpine Road (off Indian Crossing) and carpool or walk to the Alpine Road gate of the Windy Hill Open Space Preserve, just beyond Willowbrook Drive.

There, Pam Sturner, executive director of the creek's Watershed Council, will give a short talk on the creek and its watershed. There will be an activity period looking at plants, animals, erosion and other aspects of the creek, and at various locations in and away from the creek.

"We're looking at what goes on in the watershed," said Marge de Staebler of Portola Valley a member of the council.

Afterward, the council will provide a picnic lunch accompanied by a discussion of the creek. "We'll talk about a wish list or vision for the creek over the next five years," Ms. de Staebler said.

For information, call Katie Pilat at Acterra, 962-9876, ext. 305.
