Motorcyclist killed, another injured in two accidents
(August 11, 2004) After two motorcycle accidents on state Highway 84 in unincorporated San Mateo County this weekend, one motorcyclist was dead and another was in critical condition, said Christian Oliver, public affairs officer with the California Highway Patrol.
Steven John Honholt, 38, of La Honda died on August 6 after his motorcycle collided with a Chevrolet truck on Highway 84 west of Old La Honda Road, Mr. Oliver said.
Mr. Honholt was traveling eastbound when his motorcycle crossed over the double yellow lines into traffic around 7 p.m., Mr. Oliver said. Mr. Honholt was thrown from his motorcycle and died at the scene.
Brian Chung, 32, of San Francisco, suffered major head and leg injuries when his motorcycle collided with a van on Highway 35 south of Swett Road on August 7 around 11 a.m., Mr. Oliver said.
Mr. Chung was traveling northbound on Highway 35 when his motorcycle crossed over the double yellow line into the opposing lane and collided with an approaching GMC van, Mr. Oliver said. The van was driven by Augustine Correa of Menlo Park.
Mr. Chung was thrown from the motorcycle and landed several feet away from the initial impact, suffering major head injuries and a broken thigh bone, Mr. Oliver said. He was taken to Stanford Hospital and is in critical condition.
