Alex Fonti wins Eagle Scout award

Boy Scout Alex Fonti, 16, of Emerald Hills recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Alex, who will be a junior at Woodside High School in the fall, has been a member of Troop 149 in Redwood City for five years. He has received 31 merit badges and completed a community service project at Edgewood Park, where he worked with a crew of 20 to install 58 logs along a poorly marked trail that leads to a scenic outlook.

Alex is the assistant drum major of the Woodside High School marching band. His brother Michael, 17, also received his Eagle Scout award this year and will be a senior at Woodside High School.

Ashley Tomes helps out at aquarium

Ashley Tomes, a sophomore at Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut, and the daughter of Jeff Booth and Janice Tomes of Portola Valley, was a volunteer at the Mystic Aquarium during the spring 2004 semester. Student volunteers work in the animal care and research division and assist in research projects at the aquarium. Ms. Tomes is a 2002 graduate of Crystal Springs Uplands School.
