Kristin Cashin of Menlo Park has joined the Menlo Park office of Cashin Company, a real estate firm founded by her father in 1995.

Born and raised in Menlo Park, she attended St. Raymond, Castilleja and Menlo School. After graduating from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., she worked in retail marketing in New York for two years, and has spent the last seven years as director of research for a local private equity firm.

She also serves as the community service chair for the Menlo School Alumni Association.

Her father and grandfather built the Fox and Carskadon real estate company in the 1980s, and Ms. Cashin's first job was working for her grandfather as a weekend secretary.

"I worked in the Menlo Park and Woodside offices, and used to tour open houses with him," she said.

Doll Capital forms new venture fund

Doll Capital Management of Menlo Park recently formed a new venture fund, DCM IV, capitalized at $375 million, said David Chao, managing general partner. The firm, which focuses on early-stage investments in the communications, software and semiconductor industries, now has in excess of $1 billion under management, he said.

William Lu joins Piper Jaffray

William (Bill) Lu has joined the Menlo Park office of the investment firm Piper Jaffray & Co. as a senior research analyst covering semiconductor capital equipment companies. Previously, he was a senior research analyst at Morgan Stanley in San Francisco.

Bryan Derman joins Glenbrook Partners

Bryan Derman, who has 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, recently joined Glenbrook Partners in Menlo Park, a financial services consulting and research firm. He will be a partner in Glenbrook. Previously, he was vice president of strategic development for Cyota, a New York City-based payment-security company.

Charlie Duncheon joins Artificial Muscle Inc.

Charlie Duncheon, who has some 20 years of technology marketing and sales-management experience, recently joined Artificial Muscle Inc. in Menlo Park as vice president of marketing and sales. Mr. Duncheon was most recently senior vice president of sales and marketing for Adept Technology Inc. in Livermore.

Artificial Muscle branched off of SRI International, also a Menlo Park company, earlier this year. The company designs and manufactures sensing components that act as artificial muscle to be used as alternatives to small motors, generators, sensors and speakers in products ranging from automobiles to audio speakers. Its offices are at 925 Hamilton Ave.
