Alpine A's win tournament title
Alpine A's win tournament title
(August 18, 2004)
After their Menlo-Atherton Little League and Alpine All Star season finished at the end of July, the Alpine A's wanted to play more baseball, so their coach, Dave Denier of Menlo Park, signed them up for the first annual Alameda All Stars Invitational Tournament for 10-year-olds, held July 31 to August 4 at Rittler Park in Alameda.
Twelve teams were allowed to sign up for the tournament, which was not part of the Alameda Little League.
Not only were these 10-year-old "Alpine A's" No. 1 seeded and undefeated after the three-game, round-robin tournament, they went on to win the single-elimination championship title, reports proud baseball mom, Suzanne McHugh of Woodside.
These Menlo Park and Woodside boys are members of the Alpine A's: Brad Haaland, Peter Marsden, Aaron Oro, Marcus Prioste, Travis McHugh, Will Lyons, Jordan Winawer, Sam Falkenhagen, James Shaw and Austin Baloff. Coaches are head coach Dave Denier, assistant coach Gary Priost and assistant coach Tony Oro.
