Spring Down Equestrian Center in Portola Valley is pitching in to help Maximus, the ailing San Jose police horse with the mounting medical bills that is being treated by local vets at Peninsula Equine Group.

Spring Down's 20th anniversary barn party, held 1:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday, August 29, includes a special appearance by Max's colleagues on the San Jose police's Mounted Unit and a fundraiser for Max's medical care.

Tickets to the party are $30 and include a barbecue, entertainment by Spring Down's Rhythm and Blues Drill Team, junior swing dance champions Rome and Chevy Slater, and dancing to Gene Holiday's all-star music.

Reservations are required. Call 851-1114 or e-mail sdecenter@aol.com.
