Rotary's Pooch pageant in Portola Valley
(September 01, 2004) The Rotary Club of Woodside/Portola Valley is moving its seventh annual Pooch Pageant to the Town Center in Portola Valley and adding a pooch parade, a "walk your dog to Windy Hill." The events take place from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, September 12.
"Celebrity" hosts for the event are Jamis MacNiven of Buck's restaurant and Ken White, president of the Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA. The day's activities will begin with the pooch parade, followed by pooch contests and prizes. Dogs and their companions are urged to come in costume, says Rotarian Joan Fuetsch.
The contests include: best costume, best kisser, best mutt, best tail wagger, best dog/owner look-alike and best cookie catcher.
There will be music by the Los Trancos Woods Community Marching Band and food and drink by Alice's Restaurant.
The Rotary is also seeking families or businesses willing to sponsor a child from the Girls Club of the Mid-Peninsula to pair up with a shelter dog for a day in the country. If interested, call Ms. Fuetsch, 529-2800, ext. 102.
The Humane Society and SPCA will have adoptable dogs available at the event, and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office will put on a K-9 demonstration.
Entrance fee for the pageant is $25 for dogs, $20 for adults, $5 for children.
All proceeds will be used to support Rotary service projects. Register
