Portola Valley Notes: Council amends roofing ordinance
(September 01, 2004) New roofs in Portola Valley must meet a new standard of fire resistance now that the Town Council has given its unanimous approval to an amendment to the town's roofing ordinance.
At its Wednesday, August 25, meeting, the council voted to require that new roofs have a fire-retardant layer such as sheetrock placed between the roofing material -- such as wood shakes -- and the layer, typically plywood, that sits on the rafters.
The town's building official is authorized to apply the amendment to rebuilt roofs that replace more than 50 percent of the "actual structure of the roofing assembly," said Town Administrator Angela Howard.
Several meetings ahead on Town Center redesign
Portola Valley residents interested in the continuing evolution of the redesign of the Town Center complex of buildings and playing fields may want to attend several meetings scheduled for September and one each in October and November.
A revised concept of the master plan is on the agenda for the Wednesday, September 8, Town Council meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m., half an hour earlier than usual.
The evening will include new information on parking and traffic circulation and a discussion of the impacts of opening up Sausal Creek, the sizes of the library and multi-use room, and the inclusion of a preschool.
