Ask the officer Ask the officer (September 08, 2004)

Menlo Park police officer Glenn J. Raggio answers questions about the police and law enforcement. Call 330-6396, or e-mail: asktheofficer@menlopark.org.

Q. I met a Menlo Park police officer who said he lives in Placerville and commutes to Menlo Park. Is this unusual?

A. We do have an officer who lives in Placerville! Several of Menlo Park's 36 officers live an hour or two away: Boulder Creek (2) Modesto, Stockton, Brentwood, Fairfield, Manteca and Placerville. Our workweek consists of four 11-hour days, and then we have four days off. Usually, officers spend four workdays in Menlo Park, and go home for their four days off, so they aren't commuting every workday. Living in Menlo Park is costly, and many officers live in areas where they can afford to buy a home.
