Portola Valley's annual fall celebration -- the Blues and Barbecue festival -- includes a milestone this year: the town is turning 40.
In recognition of this anniversary, the Sunday, September 19, festival at the Town Center will salute the residents who have lived in town since 1964. At 4:30 p.m., these residents will be asked to gather on stage for a group photograph.
The day's activities begin at 3:30 p.m. and officially end at 8 p.m. For the kids, there will be a petting zoo, pony rides, a climbing wall and a henna artist. Adults can sidle up to the bar or enjoy appetizers, or both.
Music will be by the Barn Doors.
At 5:30 p.m., the food line opens. On the menu will be ribs and chicken. For dinner, wine and beer at a table, tickets are $60 per person; a table for 10 is $600. For dinner on the lawn, tickets are $25 per adult and $10 per child, ages 5-12. For picnickers, tickets are $10 per adult and free for kids under 12.
The festival will include a silent auction -- beginning at 3:30 p.m. -- and a drawing, with winners being announced at 6:30 p.m. Drawing tickets are $10 each or three for $20.
Among the items up for auction are tours of Jasper Ridge, the Computer History Museum, Sunset Magazine, the Jellich ranch, the San Andreas fault, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Other auction items include wine, a garden cocktail party, a party at Spring Down Equestrian Center, and a picnic from Bianchini's Market. All proceeds go to the town's fund for open-space acquisition.
