Reward offered in road death Reward offered in road death (September 08, 2004)

By Bay City News Service

Family and friends of Michael Fields, a 37-year-old Belmont stockbroker found shot to death in his crumpled car August 31 near Woodside, are offering a $150,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of his killer.

Mr. Fields, a married father of two young children, was found dead in his black Mercedes around 7 a.m. Tuesday after the car apparently fell from Interstate 280 and crashed into a tree near Edgewood Road.

San Mateo County Coroner Robert Foucrault said Mr. Fields did not die in the crash but of a gunshot wound suffered before the crash.

Investigators found at least one bullet hole on Mr. Fields' car and a weapon near the highway's center divide, near where Fields' car veered off the road.

Investigators said they think the shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. as Mr. Fields was headed to work in San Jose, and encourage any witnesses to call Detective Bob Arnaudo at (650) 363-7823 or the sheriff's anonymous tip line at (800) 547-2700.
