Tom Hunter holds concert at Ladera Community Church
(September 22, 2004) Tom Hunter, folk singer, songwriter and educator, returns to Ladera Community Church to give a concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 25, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ladera Community Church School.
In the mid-1970s, Mr. Hunter was the youth minister at the church, 3300 Alpine Road, Portola Valley, which offers religious education for children on Sunday mornings. He has gone on to record dozens of tapes and CDs and has been a frequent guest at early childhood education conferences.
Mr. Hunter sings songs of fun and inspiration to the young-at-heart.
On Sunday, September 26, Mr. Hunter will present the sermon at the 9:30 a.m. worship service and perform his music.
The staff of the Ladera Church Preschool will host the coffee hour after the service. Both the church school and preschool will hold an open house at 11 a.m., when members of the congregation and community may visit the classrooms.
The church school involves children directly in the stories of the Bible in age-appropriate ways, said Donna Lindsay, the church's director of religious education.
Classes follow the "Rotation Model," she said, which allows children to experience each Biblical story over a three-week period using the creative and performing arts.
The accredited Ladera Community Church Preschool is an outreach program of the church. Its curriculum is non-sectarian.
