Canada College is hosting two free college information fairs for high school students and community college students who want to transfer to four-year colleges. College Night, for high school students and their parents, will be held September 30, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the gymnasium of the college's campus in Woodside. University representatives will be there to answer questions.

Transfer Day, for transfer students, will be held September 29, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the college's cafeteria.

The events will address such issues as college admission requirements and financial aid.

College Night will be held in partnership with the Sequoia Union High School District. For more information, call the Canada College Counseling Center at 306-3372.

Reading tutors are needed

Volunteers are the backbone of Project Read-Menlo Park, and the organization is seeking more volunteers to help adults learn to read and write through its free program.

Tutors will be trained on Wednesday, September 22, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and on Saturday, September 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a follow-up training on November 3. All sessions will be held in the downstairs meeting room of the Menlo Park library at 800 Alma St.

Job training for transportation workers at OICW

Thursday, September 30, is the deadline to enroll in a free job-training and placement program by the Menlo Park-based Opportunities Industrialization Center West (OICW) for people laid off in the transportation industry in the wake of September 11, 2001. Simitian holds town hall meeting

Residents with comments and concerns about state government can bring them to a town hall meeting Sunday, September 26, held by California Assemblyman Joe Simitian, D-Palo Alto. The meeting will run from 2 to 4 p.m. in Palo Alto's City Hall at 250 Hamilton Ave. For more information, call Mr. Simitian's district office at 688-6330.
