Local English riders of all ages are invited to compete at the Woodside Pony Club's annual hunter jumper horse show in Woodside on Sunday, October 10.

Register by October 2 and the entry fee is $15 per class. After that, the fee will be $20 per class. Entry forms are posted at many riding stables and public bulletin boards in the area, and can be downloaded from the club's Web site: www.woodsideponyclub.org.

"The show has something to offer every level and age of rider; beginning riders 6 and under can ride in the lead line class, and for more advanced riders, we offer an Open Jumper class with jumps up to 3 feet 3 inches," says show secretary Catherine Swent.

The WPC Classic offers 31 classes in two arenas at the Horse Park at Woodside, formerly known as CTETA. The facility is located on Sand Hill Road, a half mile west of Interstate 280.

Classes are divided into four divisions: beginning, low, short stirrup (for children 11 and under), and long stirrup, so that riders may also compete for overall high-point awards.

The show starts at 8:30 a.m. and runs all day. The warm-up areas will open at 7:30 a.m. Food service will be available throughout the show.

Trophies, ribbons and prizes will be handed out down to eighth place in all classes except for the lead line class, where all participants are awarded blue ribbons.

The judges are local horsewomen Kay Hitch and Jen Lake.

The horse show is the club's major fundraiser. Formed over 25 years ago, Woodside Pony Club is a member of the U.S. Pony Club, a nonprofit national organization open to riders ages 7-21 with their own horses and ponies.

Instructors teach English riding and horse management skills year-round at the John Kiely Equestrian Center, 3375 Tripp Road, Woodside.
