Caption with picture in print edition: Menlo Park artist Mitchell Johnson -- whose oil-on-linen work, "Numana & Hossegor," is shown here -- will present a slide lecture on Thursday, October 14, at the Palo Alto Art Center. The presentation, "Figurative Abstraction and Poetic Light: Painter's Lessons from Corot to Morandi," is set for 7:30 to 9 p.m. After the free program, Mr. Johnson and Kepler's bookstore will hold a book signing for the monograph, "Mitchell Johnson," which includes an essay by poet Peter Campion.
