Geisha's smile to light up Menlo council chambers Geisha's smile to light up Menlo council chambers (November 10, 2004)

Those who missed the recent "Geisha: Beyond the Painted Smile" exhibition at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco can still get a taste of this mysterious world.

On Thursday, November 18, Asian Art Museum docent Florence Hitchcock will speak in the Menlo Park City Council chambers at 701 Laurel St., giving a slide presentation covering works from the exhibition. The talk is free and open to the public, running from 7 to 9 p.m.

Menlo Oaks resident Erin Glanville organized the event in hopes of expanding opportunities for art appreciation in the area, she said. The talk will also include references to the popular Arthur Golden book, "Memoirs of a Geisha," which Ms. Glanville said has been discussed by many local book clubs.

The museum exhibit, which ended in September, included more than 150 works of art, including woodblock prints, paintings, kimonos and photographs. For more information, call Ms. Glanville at 328-4949.
