'Macbeth' at Woodside Priory School
(November 10, 2004) Ambition, deceit and treachery with the best of intentions are all there in the Woodside Priory School's staging of the Shakespearean tragedy, "Macbeth."
With traditional language and costumes, students will present the classic at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 18; 8 p.m. Friday, November 19; and at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, November 20.
Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for general admission.
"It is a play with multiple themes that resonate today and throughout history," said Katie Lewine, stage manager and a student in the senior class.
Student actors have been practicing diction exercises that help the 400-year-old language roll easily off the tongue, said John Sugden, director and drama teacher. About half of the cast is learning stage sword fighting, and most are practicing imaginative exercises to help them make the supernatural in the play come alive, he said.
Metalworking students in the school's visual arts department have fashioned swords and daggers for the fight scenes.
Tickets are for sale in advance in the bookstore. School productions often sell out. For more information, call Pat Reed at 851-8221, or e-mail preed@woodsidepriory.com
