Father-son art show opens at Little House
(November 10, 2004) There are lush landscapes with branches and slanting roofs. And then there are bold patterns of colorful shapes, made by woodcut prints.
Two different visions by two artists, but the family is the same. An art exhibition opening this month at Little House Activity Center at 800 Middle Ave. in Menlo Park features the work of the late painter Ivan Summers and his son, Santa Cruz woodcut artist Carol Summers.
Called "American Landscape," the show officially kicks off on Saturday, November 13. Carol Summers is scheduled to give a lecture and a demonstration of his print-making style at 3:30 p.m., with a reception to follow from 4 to 6 p.m.
The work of the elder Summers includes glimpses of autumn in the Catskills and watery scenes in Carmel, while Carol Summers creates more abstract images. About 30 works of art will be on display through the end of November, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
A donation of $10 is requested at the demonstration to support arts programs at Little House. For more information, call 326-2025.
