Stanford science lab named for Lorry Lokey Stanford science lab named for Lorry Lokey (November 17, 2004)

Stanford alumni Lorry Lokey of Atherton was honored last month when the Lorry Lokey Laboratory for Chemistry and Biology was dedicated in his name.

About 200 guests attended the event.

The 87,000-square-foot building was completed in December 2003.

With a $20 million donation, Mr. Lokey was the lead donor for the building, which cost $57.5 million. The Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Institute and the Arthur Vining Davis Foundation also made major contributions.

Mr. Lokey graduated from Stanford in 1949, where he was editor of the Stanford Daily. In 1961 he founded Business Wire, the international media relations wire service, and is still chairman and CEO.

Mr. Lokey is also the lead donor for the main library project at Santa Clara University and has volunteered to be the lead donor for construction of a new Stanford Daily building.
