Following are nonprofit organizations that serve seniors. They are not part of the Holiday Fund, so gifts and checks should be sent directly to them. Many also need volunteers.

** Menlo Park Senior Center offers a culturally diverse place where seniors can enjoy good food, friendship and fun, and take a variety of classes. It provides a hot lunch for seniors at noon Monday through Friday; weekly "Brown Bag" groceries for low-income seniors; and monthly trips. Transportation to and from the center is provided by arrangement at no cost for disabled seniors. To reach: Menlo Park Senior Center, 110 Terminal Ave., Menlo Park, CA 94025; 330-2280. ** Avenidas is a multi-service agency for seniors and their families. Programs include: Senior Day Health Center, a state-licensed adult day health program; Senior Home Repair; social work services; and Senior Care, personalized and managed care to enable older adults to remain at home. Classes and lectures are offered throughout the year. Lunch served Monday-Friday through La Comida at Avenidas. To reach: Avenidas, 450 Bryant St., Palo Alto, CA 94301; 326-5362; www.avenidas.org. ** Menlo Park Veterans Hospital Senior Projects provide nursing, respite and extended care for 400 veterans at the hospital on Willow Road in Menlo Park. Residential care includes homeless rehabilitation and treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder and drug and alcohol abuse. To reach: Menlo Park Veterans Hospital Senior Project, c/o Voluntary Services, Veterans Hospital, 795 Willow Road, Menlo Park, CA 94025; 617-2753. ** Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. , founded over 50 years ago, continues to develop and expand its services to seniors. Major programs in Menlo Park include: Little House Activity Center at 800 Middle Ave., offering evening and day classes, a computer center, fitness programs, hot meals and leisure activities; Rosener House, adult day services at 500 Arbor Road for frail elderly as well as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and stroke patients; Meals on Wheels, which delivers 70,000 meals a year to home-bound seniors and disabled people, from San Carlos to East Palo Alto; and low-income senior housing in Menlo Park for independent living at Partridge/Kennedy Apartments with 30 units and Crane Place with 93 units.
