Mediation settles Ladera lights Mediation settles Ladera lights (December 15, 2004)

It took 15 hours of face-to-face discussions. But with the help of a mediator from the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center and a lot of determination on both sides, the Ladera Swim and Tennis Club was able to resolve its long-running dispute with its Ladera neighbors over increasing the lighting for night play on the club's tennis courts.

Unlike previous meetings on the contentious issue, there was almost no discussion December 7, when the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors approved the compromise agreement worked out by both parties.

The lights will be brighter and more modern, with better shields, but there will be no more of them. The courts will also be painted darker to reduce reflected light.
