Around Town: Holiday art sale at M-A High Around Town: Holiday art sale at M-A High (December 15, 2004)

Sculptural and functional ceramic art pieces will be featured in a holiday art sale to be held from 11:20 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 15, and 11:20 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, December 16, on the green by the Menlo-Atherton High School library.

All the ceramic pieces cost under $15. They have been created in Deb Gutof's five ceramics classes, where students learn the cultural traditions underlying Japanese teacups, pre-Columbian masks, Polynesian animal figures and more. For more information, call Paul Bendix at 325-8412.
Winter solstice

Meg Beeler of Menlo Park will lead a winter solstice celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, December 19, at the Marsh Road Bayfront Park in Menlo Park. Participants will gather at the top of the first hill inside the park and will be invited to write their hopes for the coming year. Their written thoughts will then be launched in a "spirit boat" made of reeds and carried by the tides into the Bay. The free event is sponsored by the Foundation for Global Community. Gingerbread houses

More than 90 gingerbread houses will be on display during Coyote Point Museum's 24th annual gingerbread house exhibition through January 2. The show will include Victorian homes, log cabins, cottages, igloos and castles. Coyote Point Museum is located at 1651 Coyote Point Drive in San Mateo.
Toys for Tots

Tuesday, December 21, is the last day to drop off non-perishable food and new unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots at the Menlo Park Chamber of Commerce, 1100 Merrill St. in Menlo Park. Donations may be dropped off during office hours, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, call the chamber at 325-2818.
Let's dance

The Sequoias-Portola Valley square dance group invites square dancers in the Portola Valley area to join them as guests at their Monday holiday sessions on December 20 and 27.

The Sequoia group dances at the basic level. Sessions are held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in The Sequoias Hanson Hall, 501 Portola Road at Willowbrook Drive. There is no charge.
M-A soccer team loses to Carlmont, 2-0

Menlo-Atherton High School boys varsity soccer team lost to Carlmont, 2-0, on December 8 at M-A. M-A is now 1-3-1 overall, and 0-1-0 in league play.
