Little League registration

Saturday, January 15, is the deadline to register for the Menlo-Atherton Little League season. This is the first year for online registration. Forms will be found online only.

To register, or for boundary information, go to www.mall.org. Boys and girls, ages 6 to 16, may sign up for softball, T-ball, pitching machine, AAA, Majors, Juniors and Seniors. For questions call 324-8323.

Woodside basketball

** The Woodside boys' varsity basketball team won one and lost one during the past week, and now has a record of 10-5 (1-1 in league games). The team is in third place in the PAL South League. On January 5, Woodside lost to Burlingame at home, 72-66. Dominic Cruz-Duncan had 21 points for Woodside, but the team could not overcome Burlingame star Drew Shiller's 45 points. On January 7, the Wildcats routed Carlmont at home, 72-48. Woodside's James Sandoval scored 16 points with three rebounds, while Juston Smith added 11 points and three assists.

** The Woodside girls' varsity basketball team lost twice during the past week, and now has a record of 10-6 (0-2). The team is in sixth place in the PAL South League. On January 5, the team lost a tight game at top-ranked Burlingame, 35-33. Woodside's Courtnei Taylor had 13 points in the loss. On January 7, the team lost another close game to Carlmont at home, 47-46. Woodside's Ariane Smith had 12 points, but the team had two critical turnovers in the final minute that cost them the game.

M-A basketball

** The Menlo-Atherton boys' varsity basketball team won one and lost one during the past week, and now has a record of 6-6 (1-1). The team is currently tied for fifth place in the PAL South League. On January 5, the team beat San Mateo on the road, 46-39. M-A's Chris Dallmar had 19 points and Dan Trautman, 13. On January 7, the team lost at home to Sequoia, 64-58. Trautman had 18 points and 11 rebounds and Carson Finkle pitched in 21 points for the Bears.

** The Menlo-Atherton girls' varsity basketball team lost one and won one during the past week, and now has a record of 9-5 (1-1). The team is in fifth place in the PAL South League. On January 5, the team defeated San Mateo at M-A, 50-41. M-A's Mia Sanchez had 11 points and Sigourney Jellins added 10 points in the win. On January 7, the team lost to Sequoia at home, 42-38. M-A's Ann Sbardellati had 14 points and eight rebounds.

Strikers soccer tryouts

The MP Strikers, a local CYSA soccer club, is holding tryouts for boys and girls, U8-U15, on Saturday and Sunday, January 15-16, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Hillivew School, 1100 Elder Ave. in Menlo Park.

Teams are looking for players for the 2005 spring and fall seasons. The Strikers have more than 20 teams playing in Class 3 and Class 1, with spots available for motivated players.
