Electric heater starts Menlo Park fire Electric heater starts Menlo Park fire (January 19, 2005)

A fire broke out in a Menlo Park home January 16 after a portable electric heater was placed too close to clothing and a bed, said Division Chief Frank Fraone from the Menlo Park Fire Protection District.

Residents in the home at 1263 Carlton Ave. quickly put out the fire with water around 4:30 p.m., and the damage was limited mostly to the clothing and bed, Mr. Fraone said. No injuries were reported.

Mr. Fraone advised residents to stay in the room to monitor such heaters, and to shut them off when they leave.
