Sleepiness may have caused fatal accident Sleepiness may have caused fatal accident (January 19, 2005)

Driver fatigue might have led to a solo-vehicle crash on Interstate 280 near Woodside that took the life of a 17-year-old Saratoga girl and sent the driver and two other passengers to the hospital, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, January 15, when a 1995 BMW 530i traveling southbound at about 65 mph drifted across two lanes of traffic, down an embankment and into two trees near Farm Hill Boulevard, the CHP said.

The 18-year-old driver and his three passengers were taken to Stanford Hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead. CHP officials say they have found no evidence of the use of alcohol or drugs.
