Short chase nets car-theft suspects
(January 19, 2005) A Menlo Park police officer spotted a stolen car and, following a 25-second car chase, arrested two suspects, both juveniles.
Officer Richard Wheaton was on routine patrol at about 12:15 a.m. January 16 when he recognized the Toyota Camry reported stolen from the Belle Haven neighborhood the night before, said Sgt. Mike Boettger.
Officer Wheaton's attempt to stop the car resulted in a very short pursuit down Constitution Drive that ended when the car ran off the road onto a grassy knoll at the entrance of Tyco Electronics, Sgt. Boettger said.
Police arrested two suspects who fled from the car, including the driver, who will be charged with several crimes, including fleeing from police and possessing stolen property, Sgt. Boettger said.
Officers from the Atherton Police Department and the Menlo Park Veterans Affairs hospital police assisted in the arrest.
