Ask the officer Ask the officer (January 26, 2005)

Menlo Park police officer Glenn J. Raggio answers questions about the police and law enforcement. Call 330-6396, or e-mail: asktheofficer@menlopark.org. Q. If I am in a minor fender-bender, should I leave my car in the street or pull over to the side of the road? A. If it is safe to pull off the roadway, I suggest you do so. The odds that one accident will cause another rise significantly if cars are still in traffic lanes. I can't tell you how many times I've been at an accident scene where a rubber-necker stared his way into the car in front of him. Exceptions would be if there is an injury or if it would be difficult to determine who was at fault in the accident if the vehicles were moved.
