Atherton benefit: 'Evening of Cole Porter'
(January 26, 2005) A concert called "An Evening of Cole Porter," with vocalists Steve Gill and his daughter Anne, will be performed Saturday and Sunday, January 29 and 30, at Menlo School in Atherton, a benefit for the Rose Resnick Lighthouse for the Blind.
The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in Spieker Ballroom at Stent Hall, 50 Valparaiso Ave. The suggested donation is $10.
Mr. Gill, a veteran singer with local theater groups, is a faculty member at Menlo School. Several students will provide musical accompaniment.
After graduating from Los Altos High School in 1997, Anne Gill was in a near-fatal car accident that left her blind and brain-injured. After nine months of rehabilitation, she came home to live with her parents.
In 1999, Mr. Gill organized the first concert to support San Francisco's Lighthouse for the Blind and its summer camp at Enchanted Hills in Napa for visually impaired adults who also have other disabilities.
Menlo School students who will perform include Jennifer Mitchell, Somerset Perry and Todd Yecies of Woodside; Alexis Meredith and Alex Powar of Menlo Park; and Regan Riskas of Atherton. Menlo music teacher Linda Jordan is the musical director.
For tickets, call 330-2001, ext. 2256, or 948-4648; ask for Steve Gill or leave a message.
