Stanford names VP of public affairs Stanford names VP of public affairs (February 02, 2005)

Stanford University will soon have a new community liaison.

On March 1, David Demarest, a former White House communications director for former President George H.W. Bush, will take on the position of vice president for public affairs at Stanford, said Debra L. Zumwalt, the university's general counsel.

Gordon Earle, who held the post since June 2002, left for family reasons in December and now lives on the East Coast, said Ms. Zumwalt. Still a Stanford employee, Mr. Earle is now an executive director of media relations for the university in New York and Washington, D.C., and will report to Mr. Demarest.

Mr. Demarest will direct the university's relations with government, media and the community and will report to university president John Hennessy.

Last year, Mr. Demarest founded Sausalito-based AspenLine Reputation Strategies, "a specialized reputation management and communications consulting firm," according to a Stanford statement.
