Menlo seniors direct one-act festival Menlo seniors direct one-act festival (February 09, 2005)

The fourth annual student-directed one-act festival is coming to Menlo School's Florence Moore Auditorium for one weekend, February 10-13.

Four Menlo seniors will direct the one-acts that tackle works by Moliere, Chekhov and David Ives.

"The festival has become a fun-filled, popular tradition," said Beth Orr, Menlo's drama teacher.

Students are responsible for every aspect of the project, from costumes and set design to cast and rehearsal schedules, she said.

"The Doctor in Spite of Himself," a French comedy by Moliere, is directed by Julie Davidson of Atherton; Rachel Smith of Redwood City is assistant director. The cast includes seniors Aaron Rosekind, Katie Augustus, Jon Harms and Jennifer Mitchell; juniors Elizabeth Downing, Gilad Grey and Kiran Malladi; sophomores Kevin Greene, Jessi McDade and Allison Kwan; and freshmen Liz Mooring and Anne Hawkins.

Lisa Miracchi directs a Chekhov classic, "The Proposal," an account of miscommunication and mismatched personalities grappling with love and marriage. Alex Powar, LV Yost and Evan Tenenbaum are in the cast.

"Soap Opera" by David Ives, about a man who falls in love with his washing machine, is co-directed by Zac Minor and Nelson Chen of Atherton. The cast includes Haley Horowitz, Regan Riskas, Alex Kvamme, Chloe Nelson, Donnell Tachis and Mara Schleck.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday with a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. in Florence Moore Auditorium on the Menlo School campus, 50 Valparaiso Ave., Atherton. For tickets, at $5 for students and $7 for adults, call 330-2001, ext. 2328 or email tickets@menloschool.org.
