Designer introduces lifestyle series
Interior designer Douglas Dolezal will talk about "Creating the Home of Your Dreams" from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 16, at Miller/Dolezal Design Group offices at 3000 Alpine Road in Portola Valley.
Mr. Dolezal is a guest designer on House & Garden television's "Sensible Chic" program. He and his business partner, Robert Miller, established Miller/Dolezal Design Group in 1995.

Charlotte Diamond gives Valentine concert
Singer Charlotte Diamond brings her "Valentine Concert" to the Peninsula on Sunday, February 13, with songs for families and children, age 3 and up.
The concerts start at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. in Smithwick Theatre at Foothill College, El Monte Road and Interstate 280 in Los Altos Hills. Proceeds go to music education classes at elementary schools.
Sponsors are People of Note, a group that supports children's music education, and Linden Tree Children's Recordings and Books in Los Altos.

Japanese Americans in Redwood City
Historian Jagruti Patel, a Canada College professor, will lead an open forum on the lives of Japanese Americans who immigrated to Redwood City before and after World War II. The program, free and open to the public, will be held from 9:45 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, in the college's Main Theater, 4200 Farm Hill Blvd. in Woodside.
Ms. Patel attended Woodside High School and graduated from Menlo School. She is a graduate of UC Davis and received her master's degree in history from San Jose State University.
Retirement symposium
Retired radio talk show host Jim Dunbar will give the keynote address at "The Road Ahead," a retirement planning conference to be held Saturday, February 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Avenidas senior center, 450 Bryant St. in Palo Alto.
Realtor Nancy Goldcamp will present workshops dealing with financial security, legacy and where to live in retirement.
Cost of the conference is $40. Registration includes workshop materials, a continental breakfast and lunch, and a copy of Quicken Premier 2005 software. For more information, call Linda Borders, 326-5362, ext. 19.
Lads sell valentines for tsunami relief
Seven Menlo Park and Atherton boys are asking friends and neighbors to "Have a Heart" and purchase valentines to aid tsunami relief.
Reid Schultz, Alex Amato, Kris Campbell-Coleman, Phillip Giori and Ryan Scandlyn, eighth-graders at La Entrada School, were looking for a clever way to raise money for tsunami relief, when Reid's younger brother, Parker, thought up a heart theme. That morphed into making valentines.

Valentine show at Allied Arts
"Transition 22," an acrylic by Gregory Burns, will be shown as part of a valentine show at Between Waters Gallery in Allied Arts Guild in Menlo Park. The show, from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, February 12, will include jewelry designer Sally Shaps and singer Lori B. Owned by Kimberly Carlisle of Menlo Park, the gallery is in Suites K and J at Allied Arts Guild, 75 Arbor Road. For information, call 323-6362.
