M-A advances in Quiz Kids tournament M-A advances in Quiz Kids tournament (February 16, 2005)

** Sacred Heart is a close second.

The varsity Menlo-Atherton High School Quiz Kids recently beat Sacred Heart Prep in a very close match, 350-330, to advance to the third round of the televised Bay Area Quiz Kids tournament.

The teams competed at the January 29 match, resulting in the highest-scoring (and closest) match so far this season.

The lead seesawed back and forth throughout the match, as the students buzzed into answer questions about history, geography, science, math, art, pop culture, literature and sports.

M-A was represented by three seniors: team captain Collin Cronkite, Rachel Barclay and Julia Choe. Sacred Heart's players were captain and senior Nicole Villeneuve, sophomore Billy Rowan and senior Stephan Goupille.

The M-A/Sacred Heart match will air Saturday, April 9, at noon on KRON (Channel 4). M-A's next match will take place Saturday, March 5, when the team faces Bentley (from the East Bay) at noon at the Pen-TV studio in San Carlos. If you'd like to be in the studio audience, call Peninsula TV at 637-1936 for tickets.
