Ask the officer Ask the officer (February 23, 2005)

Menlo Park police officer Glenn J. Raggio answers questions about the police and law enforcement. Call 330-6396, or e-mail: asktheofficer@menlopark.org. Q. If I am driving at the speed limit on the freeway and a car comes up behind and me and blinks his lights, do I have to move over? A. The only the thing you should do in such a circumstance is use common sense. If you are in the fast lane, for instance, and you're being passed by vehicles in slower lanes, consider moving out of the fast lane. Insisting on your right to drive the speed limit in the fast lane can be a recipe for trouble. Road rage incidents are often caused by this very action -- or inaction. Golfers know it as "slow play."
