Big band benefit for music program
(February 23, 2005) The Woodside High School Band Boosters will present "A Night on the Black Pearl," the annual dinner-dance benefit to support instrumental music education programs, on Friday, March 4, at the American Legion Hall in Redwood City. The event starts at 7 p.m. at 651 El Camino Real.
Money is needed as the Sequoia Union High School District reduces funding and the music program moves into the new performing arts center on campus, sponsors say.
The benefit helps support the only high school marching band in the district, and brings professional jazz artists to coach jazz band students.
The pirate-themed night includes dinner, prize drawings, a silent auction and dancing to music by the Woodside High School Jazz Big Band.
People are encouraged to dress in pirate costumes. Tickets are $30 per person, $50 per couple and $15 for students. Tickets may be available at the door, but advance purchase is recommended. Call Naomi Kuhn at 369-8029.
