Rebuilding roads
Atherton streets are slated for nearly $900,000 in reconstruction and repairs this summer, as part of the town's capital improvement budget.
The dilapidated roads in question are mainly in the Lindenwood neighborhood, said Atherton Public Works Director Duncan Jones.
Included in the project are: Flood Circle, Magnolia Avenue, Linden Avenue, the Prior Lane cul-de-sac and Luburnum Road.
The Atherton City Council approved the road reconstruction plans at its February 16 meeting, but still has the ability to pull out of the project should the parcel tax renewal measure on the June 7 ballot fail and leave the town in a budget crisis.
New police cars
The Atherton Police Department is getting two new patrol cars this year. Police Chief Bob Brennan told the Atherton City Council February 16 that the new vehicles will replace two vehicles in the department's aging fleet, one with 85,000 miles on it and another one with 65,000 miles that needs transmission and engine work.
The total cost for both vehicles and specialized police equipment is just under $66,000. Atherton is saving money by "piggybacking" its order onto Redwood City's much larger vehicle order, Chief Brennan said.
The purchase was approved on a 4-0 vote at the February 16 City Council meeting. Kathy McKeithen was absent.
