SLAC wins bias lawsuit
(March 02, 2005) The Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) prevailed last week in a discrimination lawsuit brought against it by a former employee who had been fired.
A jury in federal district court in San Jose ruled unanimously on Friday that SLAC did nothing wrong when it terminated plaintiff and former employee Edward Norwood on March 19, 2002.
Mr. Norwood filed a lawsuit claiming he had been discriminated against on race and disability grounds, and that he had been fired in retaliation for having filed a racial discrimination complaint against SLAC with the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which rejected his complaint.
Mr. Norwood was a traffic manager for the purchasing department at SLAC. He was fired for refusing to perform his duties and for insubordinate conduct.
