Priory students stage 'Into the Woods'
(March 02, 2005) Cinderella's evil stepsisters, the Wolf that ate Granny, and Rapunzel of the lengthy tresses all appear in Stephen Sondheim's "Into The Woods," a musical portraying traditional fairy tales gone awry, that Woodside Priory School students will stage this weekend at the Portola Valley school.
Curtain times are 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, March 3-4; and 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, March 5.
Tickets, at $7 for general admission and $5 for students, are available at the school bookstore.
"Into the Woods" is the first musical the Priory has produced in many years and its first Broadway musical. The production is a Tony award winner with book and lyrics by James Lapine and score by Mr. Sondheim.
"I was attracted to the piece for several reasons," said John Sugden, director and drama teacher. "It is incredibly challenging to sing, and the senior class this year has an incredible depth of musical talent."
Brandon Adams, choral director and music teacher, has coached the cast in the challenging score.
Local students in the cast are: Ted McIntosh (Portola Valley), Emily Elliot (Woodside), Andrew Davison (Woodside), Kyle McAuley (Portola Valley), Ian Brent (Portola Valley), Elyse Romano (Atherton), Natasha Hobbs-Minor (Atherton), Dion Diederich (Woodside), Greg Pfau (Portola Valley), Lauren Frasch (Atherton), Katie Lampert (Portola Valley), and Jocelyn Chambers (Menlo Park).
