The 22nd annual Fifty-Plus Fitness Weekend will take place March 12 and 13 at Stanford University.

The weekend's activities include a health conference with presentations by health and fitness authorities, an awards banquet, free health fair, annual 8-kilometer run, plus sporting and fitness events for all ages.

On Sunday, March 13, exercise personality Joanie Greggains will serve as master of ceremonies. Don Bowden, who in 1957 became the first American to break 4 minutes in the mile, will also be present.

There will be a Paul Spangler Memorial 8-K run for those 50 and over, and a separate 8-K run for all ages. The health conference will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at Annenberg Auditorium.

Republican Women hear speaker

Georgiana Preskar, author of "Seeds of Deception: Planting Destruction of America's Children," will be the guest speaker at the Peninsula Republican Women's luncheon to be held Friday, March 11, at Sharon Heights Country Club. Breakfast backs youth, families

San Mateo County Supervisor Rich Gordon will focus on "Strengthening Communities" as keynote speaker at the Starting Line Breakfast for Youth and Family Enrichment Services on Wednesday, March 9, from 7:30 to 9 a.m., at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 1221 Chess Drive in Foster City. Tickets at $45 each may still be available by calling 591-9623, ext. 124.
Disco party fundraiser

All proceeds will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society from the disco party fundraiser to be held Saturday, March 12, at the British Bankers Club, 1090 El Camino Real in Menlo Park. There will be a raffle with prizes including A's and Giants tickets, as well as gift certificates for local restaurants and businesses. Cost is $5. For more information, call 327-8769.
Film: hidden world of Yemeni women

A documentary about Yemeni women will be shown at a free screening at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 12, at the Menlo Park Library, 800 Alma St. The screening is open to the public and is sponsored by United Nations Association Mid Peninsula Chapter.

"Haram: Yemen, The Hidden Half Speaks," a documentary by filmmaker Fibi Kraus, shows personal narratives of women like Aisha, who defies tribal law and her imposing father to sneak off to school. For information call 326-3170.
