House OKs bill for local roadway projects
(March 16, 2005) Plans to make traffic move more smoothly on Willow Road and to improve the connection of the Dumbarton Bridge to the Bayshore Freeway moved closer to reality as a result of the March 10 approval of a federal funding bill, according to Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Atherton.
The Transportation Equity Act was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives on a 417-9 vote. The Senate has not acted on it yet.
Local projects include:
** Willow Road traffic program. $300,000 for Willow Road in Menlo Park to reduce traffic congestion between Middlefield Road and Hamilton Avenue by making traffic signals more responsive to traffic demands.
** Dumbarton connection. $500,000 for environmental review of improvements to the connection of the Dumbarton Bridge to U.S. 101, an area that suffers from severe traffic congestion.
** U.S. 101. $2.25 million for construction of auxiliary freeway lanes from Marsh Road to the southern boundary of San Mateo County.
