Book sale at Woodside Library
Bargain hunters will find hundreds of used books on sale at the Woodside Library on Saturday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Boxes and boxes of books will be set up in the parking lot, with most hardbacks priced at $1 and paperbacks selling for a quarter.
All year long, the Friends of the Woodside Library collect donated materials from patrons, and then sell them off to raise money for special programs and books.
During the first part of the book sale, members of the Woodside-Atherton Garden Club will sell plants they have grown from their private gardens.
The plant sale will run until 2 p.m. and be set up in the California native plant garden located behind the library at 3140 Woodside Road in Woodside.
'Raise the Roof' aims to raise the cash
A yearly campaign to garner funds for free roof repair and replacement for low-income residents and community facilities has begun, organized by the Menlo Park-based Rebuilding Together Peninsula. The group hopes to raise $80,000 this year.
About 75 rebuilding projects are planned for the National Rebuilding Day program on April 30.
"This year we are facing increased lumber costs, which raises the total cost per project by 20 percent," said organization executive director Loretta Gallegos.

Recyclers, rebuilders team up in April
What could make you thirstier than building a house on a hot day? That's why a partnership between Rebuilding Together Peninsula and the BFI waste company seems pretty darn logical.
During National Rebuilding Day on April 30, when 78 home-building and renovating projects will be completed for low-income residents, BFI will provide recycling bins for beverage containers.
