Rain resets M-A Little League ceremonies
(April 13, 2005) A rain-soaked field at Burgess Park meant the opening day ceremonies for the Menlo-Atherton Little League were canceled on April 9, but the festivities are being rescheduled.
A new date had not been set by the Almanac's press time, but information will likely be available later this week on the league's Web site at www.m-all.org, league president Tom Gaa said. Games have already begun.
The new field, which opened at Menlo Park's Civic Center after a lengthy renovation, was deemed too wet for baseball but still got its planned formal dedication on Saturday. The field was named after Tom Harrison, a veteran parks and recreation commissioner who died last year after an illness.
The Little League will probably also put a plaque in the field listing Mr. Harrison's contributions to recreation in Menlo Park, which include working to find new athletic fields and championing upgrades to existing ones.
"We were so impressed when we heard all that he had done," Mr. Gaa said.
