Menlo Watch: Applications due for city budget group
(April 13, 2005) If figuring out how to spend your own paycheck isn't enough of a challenge, you may wish to help Menlo Park balance its multi-million-dollar budget.
The city is seeking Menlo Park residents to apply to serve on a special budget advisory committee for fiscal year 2006-07. City officials are seeking to build a new budget process from the ground up, working closely with residents to learn what services they value the most and how much they'd be willing to pay for them.
The process is expected to take about a year. Duties of committee members will include becoming informed about the city's financial situation and facilitating widespread citizen participation in the budget process.
Applications are due by 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13. The City Council is expected to make appointments in late April. For more information, go to www.menlopark.org and look under "Latest News Releases," or call 330-6620.
Bring a shovel
Is there such a thing as a free compost pickup? Menlo Park residents can find out on Saturday, April 16, when BFI will deposit a large pile of compost just inside the entrance to Bayfront Park at Bayfront Expressway and Marsh Road.
Residents can come after 9 a.m. and are asked to bring their own shovels and containers. The compost comes from recycled yard trimmings. For more information, call 330-6763.
