Menlo-Atherton High School teams have won four consecutive Peninsula Quiz Kids trophies since the contest's founding in 1999. But with late losses in 2004 and again this year, M-A's total will remain at four.

M-A seniors Collin Cronkite, Rachel Barclay and Julia Choe made a good showing, losing in the March 12 quarter-finals to Crystal Springs Uplands School in Hillsborough by a score of 350 to 320, or two questions worth 15 points each.

A year ago, M-A -- at that time, No. 1 for four years running -- fell in the first round of the finals when the show's producers matched them with No. 2 seed Bentley Upper School from the East Bay, said Sue Kayton, an M-A parent.

Taped episodes of "Quiz Kids" air Saturdays at noon on KRON4 TV.
