Portola Valley: Designers refine Town Center plan Portola Valley: Designers refine Town Center plan (April 20, 2005)

The team of architects and designers planning a new Town Center for Portola Valley will flesh out details in a presentation to the Town Council at a special meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, in the Historic Schoolhouse.

This "schematic" phase of the conceptual master plan for the building complex at Town Center includes proposed floor plans, building materials and mechanical systems.

At the meeting, council members and the public will have a chance to comment on the schematic. The council may approve the schematic or may direct the architects to change it.

"It could change a little, but it could change a lot," said Larry Strain, a principal architect on the design team.

Once approved, the schematic will be used to make estimates on the cost of the new complex, said Mr. Strain.

Since December, Mr. Strain and other members of the design team have been meeting every two weeks with a group consisting of Mayor Ed Davis, Councilman Ted Driscoll, Town Administrator Angie Howard, Chip Macintosh of the Planning Commission, Laura Chase of the Architecture and Site Control Commission, Public Works Director Howard Young, and a representative of Christ Church, a next-door neighbor to the Town Center.
