Mother's Day floral festival set at historic Woodside estate Mother's Day floral festival set at historic Woodside estate (May 04, 2005)

Filoli's 2005 flower show, "A Cherished Gift," will be in full bloom Mother's Day weekend, May 5-8, at the historic Woodside estate.

Not only will gardens be at their springtime best, but the mansion and visitors' center will showcase arrangements of professional and amateur designs, as well as floral vignettes and table settings from supporters such as Tiffany & Company, Bloomingdale's, and Shelby's Garden.

Once again, Suzanne Legallet of Atherton will be flower show chairman. Her Atherton garden has been featured on garden tours and in national magazines.

The flower show theme, "A Cherished Gift," honors Lurline Matson Roth, who gave her home, Filoli, to the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1975.

The three Roth children, Lurline Roth Coonan of Woodside, Berenice Roth Spalding of Hillsborough, and William M. Roth, who lives on the East Coast, are honorary chairmen of the opening night reception.

The opening night party will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 5. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served to guests who may stroll through the garden and view flower arrangements in the house and visitors' center. Tickets are $60 for members and $65 for others.

Afternoon teas will be held Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7, at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Cost is $45 for members, $50 for non-members and $30 for children 5-17.

A Mother's Day champagne brunch, with seatings at 10:30 a.m., noon and 1 p.m., takes place Sunday, May 8. Cost is $65 for members, $70 for non-members and $35 for children 5-17.

General admission to the flower show Friday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., is $15 for members, $20 for non-members, $5 for children 5-17 and free for children under 5.

For more ticket information, call Filoli's ticket office at 364-8300, ext. 508.
