Atherton photographer, poet exhibits her works
(May 04, 2005) For the past year, Lenore Horowitz of Atherton has been photographing the oaks on the campus of the Stanford Linear Accelerator on Sand Hill Road.
An exhibition of her work, "Trees That Climb the Sky," photography and poetry by Lenore Horowitz, opens Thursday, May 5, at SLAC in Research Office Building 48 at 2575 Sand Hill Road in Menlo Park.
A reception for the artist will be held that evening from 5 to 7 p.m.
Ms. Horowitz has been studying photography at Foothill College under the leadership of teacher/photographer Kate Jordahl.
"The digital revolution has made possible amazing image making," says Ms. Horowitz, who will exhibit 29 photographs.
She is known for her book, "Kauai Underground Guide" (Papaloa Press $12.95), which has sold more than 200,000 copies and is in its 17th printing, she said.
The book was first printed in 1980 and grew from 16 photocopied and stapled pages of "things to do" lists that Mrs. Horowitz made up for renters of her family's Kauai condominium. The guide is available at Kepler's Books.
Most important to Ms. Horowitz is that a portion of the sales price of each book is donated to nonprofit agencies helping Kauai's children. So far, $80,000 has been donated, she said.
